We spent another glorious two weeks starting in early February at Palm Island, our 19th time! Our servers Martinus, Shaquille, Olive and Hulda were wonderful see photos.
In fact, all of the wait staff were friendly, efficient and professional. Thank you to Kashi, Kenroy, Glenford, Niashair and many others for taking such good care of us.
Johnny the bartender and Chef Baka deserve kudos, too. Others meriting mention: Andez, the new Activities Director with his hilarious aqua-robics classes, the front office staff Joe, Ed, Alaska , Charles, room beverage service, Lisa of Housekeeping, Waldo at water sports, Captain Manny of the Yannis, the new restaurant manager, Dervon.
And of course, Katie, the Manager, who holds it all together so well. The full moon while we there brought its higher tides and some water and sand flooding of walkways but also brought more sea birds pelicans, terns, frigates, gulls feeding just offshore.
On shore we saw egrets, hummingbirds, tropical mocking birds, banana quits, sand pipers, mourning doves and a crowned heron. Iguanas, geckos, lizards, crabs and land turtles were frequently seen.
Lunch at The Sunset Bar was always a treat. Examples from the menu: great French fries to go with spicy jerk chicken or a shared pizza or sashimi or grilled fish along with fresh salad fixings.
Sea turtles can be sighted surfacing just offshore during lunchl. For a small added fee, you can order a beautiful lobster meal in season.

There are pictures on the resort website. Nice rooms but no ocean view. Lots of places to sunbathe on beaches or poolside. Grab some bikes and explore the island.
We've been twice and hope to return soon. If you can find another couple or two to travel with you, the villas Southern Cross and Seafeather are spectacular.

Caribbean St. Vincent and the Grenadines Union Island. Is This Your Tripadvisor Listing? To counteract with the waves and the constant motion of the sea, breakwaters were built all around the island.
Expanded over a length of about The divers checked the alignment and placement of the rocks beneath the surface to ensure its stability.
Shape of the island was monitored using the global positioning system. The sand on top of the island was sprayed by a technique called rainbowing.
The whole island was planned such that there was no stagnant water between the island and the breakwaters.
In order to achieve this, small structural modifications were made to the breakwaters that surrounded the island, allowing the sea water to move through the breakers without causing any damage to the island.
To prevent erosion of the sand from the island, maintenance systems spray material along the coast of the island and also along the Dubai coast.
Coastal ecology was recovered with the help of nature itself. These changes began attracting newer species of fishes and also reef formations.
Precautions were also taken to prevent the process of liquifaction of the sand on the island below the upper surface. This process of liquifaction was caused by the movement of the rocks and sand and also underwater erosion before and after construction.
A Vibro-compaction technique was used to prevent the process of liquifaction. The construction of the Palm islands along the coast of Dubai has caused several large environmental changes: a reduction in the area's aquatic life, erosion of the coastal soil, and irregular sediment transport along the shore.
There is also a dramatic change in wave patterns along the coast of Dubai due to the rock walls constructed around the palm islands: instead of hitting the shores directly, the waves move in an unusual manner around the new obstruction.
This has led to the weakening of the shores of Dubai. The origin of most of the environmental damage stems from disturbed sediment from construction of the Palm islands.
The sediment decreased the amount of sunlight filtering down to the sea vegetation and injured the surrounding marine fauna. The World Wildlife Fund announced in , "[The] UAE's human pressure on global ecosystems its ecological footprint [is] the highest in the world.
The country is supposedly at present five times more unsustainable than any other country" Samarai The broad trunk, connected to the mainland by a bridge , serves as the entrance to the development.
Another bridge connects the trunk to the spine, a narrow central axis from which 17 fronds protrude. The crescent is a breakwater that nearly surrounds the other sectors.
It is divided into three sections so as to facilitate the circulation of seawater. A vehicular tunnel connects the spine to the crescent, and a transit monorail runs about 3 miles 4.

The developer of Palm Jumeirah was Nakheel, a real estate company now owned by the government of Dubai.
The islets were made mostly from sand dredged from the floor of the Persian Gulf , but the side of the crescent that is exposed to the open sea was shored up with stones and boulders from the mainland.

Closely spaced villas line the long fronds, while most of the hotels and resorts are located on the crescent.
