Very pleased to get such a nice vegetarian meal in upscale modern environment. Highly recommend. I was really excited to hear that a place in Sydney was doing choushoku.
We got up early and arrived around 8am. The curt waitress told us we could only sit there for one hour since we were not guests of the hotel The atmosphere was pretty lacking, and the tables were very close together.
I was trying to put this aside and focus on the food. I ordered the choushoku. The first shock was when a big square plate arrived on our table, rather than a tray with an array of small bowls and dishes.
The plate included a large bowl of rice, a really large serving of edamame, miso soup, chawanmushi, tsukemono and fish. The fish was pretty yummy as it seems to have been cooked in shoyu butter sauce, but everything else was just meh.
The edamame were not included in the menu description, and just seemed like a really lazy space filler. Also, they are more of a bar snack than a breakfast food.
There was nothing remarkable or outstanding about this dish. So overall, disappointing. I could have made much better myself at home.
Neither the decor, nor the service, nor the food was reminiscent of Japan. By all accounts their dinner service is much better, but I don't think I'll be back.
Sokyo breakfast degustation Every time we visit Sokyo we always have an excellent meal. This time was no exception, the only small flaw was the length of time it took to get a drink.
It was obviously busy but drink service needs to be prompt. Our food waiter was very attentive. Looking forward to our next visit.

Do make sure you book ahead of time as it can be hard to secure a spot.
